The filling of the throws is handmade using an ancestral technique that Indian artisans have mastered to perfection. The non-woven cotton is beaten and distributed over the entire surface of the fabric. Then the blanket is topstitched to secure the filling which will stand the test of time and your machine washes. These patterns are "kalam Kari", a term which designates both a style and a very old printing technique consisting of applying colors using hand-carved wooden blocks - formerly styluses. There are as many blocks as there are colors, it being noted that all the colors are made from natural pigments - pomegranate, seeds, etc. - which have fermented. Applied using the blocks – which function like stamps – these colors are only revealed when the fabric is washed in river water. Then the fabric dries in the sun. Depending on the quality of the water - which must be "neither too sweet nor not enough" they say - the intensity of the sun, the season - monsoon or not - the pattern will be different. It is a know-how that is passed down from generation to generation. Machine washable at 30° - delicate cycle and gentle detergent. Low spin - 800 revolutions maximum. Dry cleaning also possible. Dryer with tennis ball recommended! An anti-fade wipe is recommended for the first three washes.
